Adapters & Extenders
Hitch receiver adapters and extenders allow you to get more use out of your receiver hitch, especially when installing accessories like cargo carriers or bike racks. Whether your hitch receiver is too small, too large or doesn’t reach out far enough, attaching an adapter or extender could save you from having to replacing it all together.
Keep in mind though, there is a downside or trade-off to using an adapter or extender. The tongue weight (TW) and gross towing weight (GTW) of your hitch are cut in half. This is because when using an extender or adapter, the load is moved further from your vehicle, applying more leverage to the hitch.
Hitch Extenders
Does your vehicle have a bumper or spare tire that makes it difficult to reach your hitch receiver when towing? Do your hitch accessories hit against your vehicle? If that is the case then attaching a hitch extender could be a simple solution. Hitch extenders come in various lengths to extend the receiver tube opening.
Hitch Expanders & Reducers
Is your receiver opening too large or too small for your favorite towing accessory? If it is too small, a hitch expander will fit inside the receiver and expand the opening to the appropriate size. If it is too large, using a sleeve style hitch reducer can make the receiver opening smaller without compromising tongue weight or gross towing weight.
Hitch Adapters
Does your hitch accessory sit too low to the ground and possibly scrape while driving? Adding a hitch adapter can raise the height of the hitch mount accessory to help solve this problem.
